Lady Lion Volleyball Earns Pair of Victories Over Greensboro & Piedmont International

GREENSBORO, N.C. -  The Piedmont College volleyball team picked up a pair of victories Saturday over Greensboro College and Piedmont International University. The Lady Lions outlasted the Pride for a 3-2 win and won 3-1 over the Bruins later in the day. 

Greensboro took the first set 28-26 showing it would be a tight battle against the Pride, but Piedmont answered to win 25-11 and 25-6. The Pride would find new life in the fourth set to take a 25-23 win and force a fifth set. 

Piedmont won 15-9 to take the match using a five point run at the end to claim the win. 

In the battle of Piedmont's, the Lady Lions won the opening set 25-23 but dropped the second 25-13. Despite the second set struggle, Piedmont would win the next two to claim a 3-1 win with 25-22 and 25-18 wins.

LAINEY CHOINIERE recorded 30 digs against Piedmont International with 17 against Greensboro. ALI WILKINS led the team with 31 assists against Greensboro while it was JENNA WENDEL that led the way with 25 assists against Piedmont International. 

Turning Point
--Piedmont took dominating wins in the second and third set against Greensboro and outlasted the Pride for a win in five sets. 
--Against Piedmont International, the Lady Lions won a pair of tight sets decided by three points or less. 

Standout Performances
--ALINA ROBERTS tallied 12 kills in both matches Saturday while CECE COGLIANO had 12 against Greensboro and 11 against the Bruins. 

News & Notes
--The victories marked the first two of the season for the Lady Lions who sit at 2-1 after the opening weekend. 

Up Next
--Piedmont will return to tournament action next weekend at Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia beginning Friday with action against Bridgewater College.
