FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - In the final regular season series of the season, the Piedmont College baseball team split a doubleheader against Methodist Saturday. The Monarchs took the first game 5-2 but Piedmont earned an 8-6 win in game two.
The first game was tight throughout as starter
SAM CARPENTER pitched into the eighth inning with the game tied at two, but would eventually take the loss as Methodist scored three in the bottom of the eighth to earn the victory. Carpenter's line was four runs scored in seven innings pitched giving up nine hits and striking out five.
TYLER BURDETTE was the only Lion to have more than one hit in game one as he went 2-for-4.
Game two saw starter
DAVID CRAFT earn the win pitching 5.2 innings giving up 10 hits and four runs. The Piedmont offense was in high gear from the start taking a 5-0 lead through the first two innings.
Piedmont led throughout but the Monarchs made it a closer contest scoring two in the bottom of the ninth but
BUDDY GREEN was able to shut it down and earn the save to preserve the win.
Turning Point
--A three-run eighth inning for the Monarchs in game one cost Piedmont the game as the two teams were tied heading into the bottom of the eighth.
Standout Performances
--
BRADY BALLSTADT was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI including a 2-run homerun in game two.
Inside the Box Score

BUDDY GREEN earned save number 11 on the season in game two.
News & Notes
--The loss for
SAM CARPENTER in game one was just his second loss of the season through 13 starts.
