FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Piedmont College baseball team dropped a 4-2 game to the Monarchs of Methodist University Sunday to end the 2018 regular season. It was a low-scoring affair with neither team scoring after the fourth inning of the game.
The Monarchs were on the board first in the first inning with one run on no hits and one error then scored another in the second on a pair of hits. Piedmont cut into the 2-0 lead as a triple by
JABIN SMITH and a double by
BRADY BALLSTADT put one on the board for the Lions.
The momentum was short-lived as Methodist scored two runs on two hits in the third inning making it 4-1. Piedmont fought back to score in the fourth inning as
CALEB NORTON singled to drive in
TYLER BURDETTE, but that was all the scoring either team would manage in a 4-2 win for the Monarchs.
RYAN COX took the loss as he moved to 2-1 on the season pitching five innings giving up four runs, just three earned, and struck out six batters. Four Lions managed two-hit performances including seniors
JABIN SMITH and
CALEB NORTON.
Turning Point
--A 2-RBI single up the middle in the third inning gave the Monarchs a 4-1 lead and put them ahead for good.
Standout Performances
--The Piedmont bullpen pitched the final three innings of the contest allowing just two hits to Methodist.
Inside the Box Score
