Stewart Leads Lions to 11-2 Win Over Birmingham-Southern

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - RYAN STEWART pitched his longest outing of his career going 8.0 innings against Birmingham-Southern to help lead Piedmont to an 11-2 win over the Panthers. Stewart tossed eight innings giving up two runs on six hits and struck out four batters. 

Piedmont got the scoring started early with two runs in the top of the first and would add another pair in the second frame. Birmingham-Southern also scored in the first two innings, but those were the only two runs they would manage in the contest. 

All but two of the Panthers hits came in the first two innings as well as Stewart held them to just two hits through the final six innings he pitched. Piedmont's offense continued to click scoring in each of the first four innings and had a four-run seventh to stretch the lead even further. 

JUSTIN GROOVER led Piedmont going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI. CALEB NORTON also had a three hit performance as Piedmont had four players with multi-hit games. 

Turning Point
--Piedmont had a 6-2 lead but in the top of the seventh they were able to score four more to distance themselves and create a sizable lead. 

Standout Performances
--RYAN STEWART pitched eight innings giving up two runs on six hits against 34 batters. 

Inside the Box Score
--Piedmont out-hit the Panthers 15-6 and scored in double figures for the 14th time this season. 

News & Notes
--This is the third win for Piedmont over BSC this season as they were 3-1 against the Panthers in 2018.

--Piedmont heads to Methodist this weekend for three games over two days to end the regular season.
