Stifling Second Half Defense Leads Lions to 75-48 Win Over Ferrum

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont College men's basketball team rolled to a 75-48 victory over Ferrum Friday night to move to 14-8 overall and 9-4 in league play. The win extends the Lions' win streak to five games marking the second five+ game win streak of the season.

It was close early, but Piedmont pulled away to lead 14-7 after the first media timeout. The Panthers cut it to a four point game 27-23 with 6:36 to play in the first half, but the Lions closed out the period with a 5-0 run to lead 39-28 at the break. 

ELIJAH ALSTON and JUSTIN VALLEJO had 14 and 13 points, respectively, in the first half, accounting for almost half of Piedmont's points. 

Coming out of halftime, the Lions were electric on offense and stifling on defense as they went on a 29-5 run through the first 13:00 of the second half. A jumper by Luka Obrvan with 6:57 remaining ended the dry spell as Ferrum was held scoreless for a stretch of 7:30 on the clock. 

In the second half, it was never in doubt as the Lions outscored the Panthers 36-20, but 15 of Ferrum's second half points came in the final seven minutes. 

Turning Point
--The Lions held the Panthers to just five points through the first 13:00 of the second half on a 29-5 run. 

Standout Performances
--ELIJAH ALSTON had his 10th double-double of the season with 23 points and 14 rebounds in 26 minutes of action. 
--MICHAEL JOSEPH had career-highs in both points and rebounds with eight points and five boards. 

Inside the Box Score
--Piedmont led throughout the contest never surrendering the lead and leading by as many as 35 points. 

News & Notes
--This may be the final meeting between these two in USA South play as the Panthers are leaving the USA South next season.

--The Lions return to action on Saturday hosting Averett University at 4:00 p.m.
