Lions Come Up Short in 84-75 Loss to Averett

DEMOREST, Ga. - TAYLOR MILLS tied the game at 73 with 4:29 remaining on a 3-pointer, but the Lions would make just one more shot from the floor in an 84-75 loss to Averett Saturday. The Lions trailed by as many as 11 and made it a close game throughout the second half, but the Cougars outlasted the Lions for the win. 

Piedmont banked back-to-back 3-pointers in the first minute of the game but it was never more than a four point game until Averett took a 29-23 lead with 4:40 to go in the first half. The Cougars extended that lead to 11 at 40-29 with under 2:00 to play till the break taking a 42-33 lead into the locker room.

The Lions chipped away at the lead and brought it to a one point game 48-47 after a 7-1 run. Piedmont trailed again by eight points 59-51 with 11:01 to go, but once again worked it back to trail by a single point 71-70 on a TAYLOR MILLS 3-pointer.

It was that same shot that would tie the contest at 73, but the Lions went cold from the floor going 1-of-9 in the final 4:00 of play. Mills accounted for 16 points with four 3-pointers as one of four Lions to score 15 or more points.  

Turning Point
--After tying the game at 73, the Cougars went on a 10-0 run holding Piedmont to just two points over the final 4:00 of the game. 

Standout Performances
--JUSTIN VALLEJO led all scorers with 19 points as Piedmont had four players with 15 or more in the contest. 

Inside the Box Score
--Averett scored 42 points in both halves. 

News & Notes
--Piedmont had just 10 points scored off the bench while Averett saw 21 of their points off the bench.
