DEMOREST, Ga. - In the 2018 season opener, the Piedmont College baseball team split a doubleheader with Emory dropping the first contest 13-6, but picking up a 10-6 victory in game two. The highlight of the night came from BRADY BALLSTADT who was clutch under pressure, twice delivering a 2-RBI single to score the go-ahead runs and put the Lions on top.

Game one saw Piedmont jump out to a three run lead in the bottom of the first, but after allowing just a pair of hits through two innings, the Eagles scored three on five hits in the third. SAM CARPENTER left the bases loaded in the third inning as he tossed the first three innings in game one.

Emory led 5-3, but the Lions tacked on another run to cut it to 5-4, however, the Eagles' offense came to life as they would score in each inning from the third through the sixth with all but one of their 13 runs coming over that span.

Game two once again saw the offense get going early, but the Eagles also continued their offensive onslaught with three runs in the top of the first. Piedmont answered with two in the bottom of the frame and tied it in the third. Both teams tacked on a run in the fifth as it was tied at four in the bottom of the sixth.

Then came the first of two 2-RBI singles by BRADY BALLSTADT with the first putting PC ahead 6-4. The Eagles had a homerun by Chris Stern in the top of the eighth to tie the contest once against at six, but Ballstadt would once again be the hero under pressure, giving Piedmont the lead and the Lions sealed it with a total of four runs in the inning.

Turning Point
--Emory led 5-4 after four innings of play but poured it on in the fifth inning with five runs on five hits to take a 10-4 lead.
--Twice, BRADY BALLSTADT rose to the occasion and had a 2-RBI single to score the go-ahead runs for Piedmont in the second contest.

Standout Performances
--TYLER BURDETTE was 3-for-5 in game one with two RBI.
--Ballstadt was 2-for-4 with four RBI in the second contest while also scoring a pair of runs and getting walked.

Inside the Box Score
--Emory's 23 hits in the first game were the most for the Eagles since 2010 v. LaGrange.
--The top of the order was on fire for PC in the second game as the first four batters accounted for seven of the Lions' 10 hits.

News & Notes
