JACKSON, Ms. - On the road for the first time this season, the Piedmont College baseball team dropped a 2-1 decision to Millsaps Sunday evening. The Lions were held to just three hits in the contest while surrendering nine to the Majors.
SAM CARPENTER was the starter on the mound for the Lions taking the loss, his first of the season, tossing 4.1 innings giving up six hits and one run while striking out six batters.
RYAN STEWART pitched the final 3.2 innings also giving up one run on three hits and struck out three.
Piedmont was slow offensively with three hits with one each in the first, sixth, and eighth innings. The Lions' run came in the eighth inning after
JUSTIN GROOVER was walked and
ANDREW BURDEN doubled.
Millsaps scored first in the second inning after an error to start the frame followed by a pair of hits. Carpenter was able to leave the bases loaded though and minimize the damage. The second run came in the sixth inning as it was once again one run on two hits and an error for the Majors.
Turning Point
--In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Majors scored on an error to take a 2-0 lead and notch the winning run.
Standout Performances
--
ANDREW BURDEN was the lone Lion with multiple hits as he went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Inside the Box Score
--Both runs for Millsaps were unearned as the Lions had three errors in the contest.
News & Notes
--The win marked the first of the season for the Majors.
