Demorest ,GA - The Lady Lion softball team picked up its first pair of victories Thursday with a pair of run-rule wins over Agnes Scott at Walker Athletic Complex. Piedmont won the first contest 10-0 in five innings and took the second by a score of 11-0.
In the first contest, the Lady Lions scored the first run of the game on a double steal with runners at first and third as
HANNAH HOBAN took off for second to force the throw while
JESSICA BAGWELL stole home. Piedmont would increase it to a 2-0 lead in the third inning, and then tear it open in the fourth inning with eight runs on five hits and a pair of errors.
All eight runs scored in the fourth inning for the Lady Lions were unearned.
In game two, Piedmont had another impressive start batting around in both the second and third innings. The Lady Lions scored six runs in the second inning and put another five across in the third to secure an 11-0 victory.
Both pitchers for the Lady Lions earned their first victories of the season as
MELISSA ECKMAN won the first contest and
MADISON WHITESIDE won game two. For Whiteside, that marked her first victory of her career.
Turning Point
--An eight-run fourth inning put the Piedmont offense in gear and led Piedmont to a run-rule victory in five innings.
--Piedmont once again had an offensive outburst in game two with six runs on six hits in the bottom of the second to take control of the contest.
Standout Performances
--
MARIANN KENNISON managed an inside the park home run scoring three runs in the fourth inning on a hard hit ground ball into the outfield.
--
JOSIE COKER was 3-for-3 in the second game with a hard hit double that hit the top of the wall as one of two doubles she hit in that contest.
Inside the Box Score

MELISSA ECKMAN earned her first win of the season with a one hit performance in game one.
--The Lady Lions had one more hit than run in both contests played Tuesday.
News & Notes
--Piedmont had five extra base hits in the doubleheader against the Scotties.
Up Next
--The Lady Lions head to the Grand Slam Tournament over the weekend where they will open competition taking on Pfeiffer University Saturday at noon.
