DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont women's lacrosse team opened its season with a 16-10 USA South win over conference foe Ferrum College at the Walker Athletic Complex.

The Lady Lions had a pair of players score four goals in Friday's game with freshman EMMA FRANSEN and sophomore ROWAN BUMPASS leading the Lady Lions.

Fransen opened her collegiate career with the game's first goal in the first 4:30 of the game. Piedmont would pull ahead 2-0 with a goal by CASSIDY HEFLIN before scoring six goals in an eight and a half minute span to lead 8-0.

The Panthers scored at the 9:08 mark to cut the lead 8-1, but a three-goal run by Piedmont pushed the lead to 11-1 with less than five minutes in the opening half.

The Lady Lions wasted no time in the second-half and scored two goals in the first 1:15 to play. After a 3-1 run by Ferrum, Piedmont scored twice to take a 16-6 lead with 16:39 to play.

Ferrum would score the game's final four goals, but the deficit would be too much as the Lady Lions open the season with a win.

MATTIE KEATON recorded seven save and allowed 10 goals in the win.
