MARQUISE LANIER led Piedmont with 17 points against the Sewanee Tigers but it was the Tigers who came away with a victory inside Cave Arena Tuesday evening 80-68. Sewanee out-rebounded the Lions 40-29 as they controlled the contest and held the lead following the first two minutes of play.
JORDAN FOOTE kept Piedmont close in the early going single-handedly reeling off seven straight points for the Lions who trailed 13-11. The next Lion to make a run on his own was
MICHAEL JOSEPH who hit a pair of signature turn-around hook shots and added a tip-in.
Sewanee led 41-32 at the half as neither team scored over the final 2:25 of the first half, and that low-scoring stretch would continue as just eight points were scored in the first five minutes of play in the second half.
The Lions trailed by just four points with 14:00 to play, but the Tigers would use several 3-pointers to build the lead up to as many as 13 with less than nine minutes to go. Sewanee would lead by as many as 14 down the stretch and ultimately win 80-68.
