DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont College men's basketball team dropped a 98-80 decision to #18 Emory University inside Cave Arena Sunday evening to open the 2018-19 season. The Lions had five players in double figures including four starters.
It was a tightly contested game in the first half as Piedmont cut it to a an 11-9 Emory lead after the first 3-pointer of the night from
JUSTIN QUICK. Quick earned a start as the freshman contributed 10 points including going 2-for-2 from downtown.
The Eagles led by as many as 15 in the first half, but the Lions cut it to 44-32 at the break. Another Quick 3-pointer made it an 11 point game, but Emory rattled off a 9-0 run to lead 63-43 with 14:06 to play.
Emory would stretch the lead to 27 before some young blood for the Lions began to chip away at the lead. The final 24 points of the game for Piedmont were scored by underclassmen including
WILL RICHTER banking three 3-pointers as Piedmont tallied 10 three's in the game.
Turning Point
--Inside the final four minutes of the first half, the Eagles managed a 10-2 run to stretch the lead to as many as 15 and maintained control throughout the second half.
Standout Performances
--Both
MILES RILEY and
MARQUISE LANIER posted 11 points in the contest with Lanier adding six rebounds.
Inside the Box Score
--Ten players in the contest scored in double figures led by Emory's Matt Davet who contributed 25 points off the bench.
News & Notes
--Despite ten players scoring in double figures, just one player notched a double-double ( Emory's Lawrence Rowley 16 points, 10 rebounds).
