Piedmont Volleyball Drops Two on Senior Day

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Piedmont College volleyball team dropped two contests Saturday against LaGrange and Covenant on senior day. The Panthers claimed a 3-1 win over Piedmont and it was a five-set thriller in Cave Arena against Covenant, but the Scots came away with the 3-2 win. 

The Lady Lions took a 1-0 lead over LaGrange with a 25-18 win in the first set as Piedmont posted a .273 attack percentage while holding LaGrange to a flat .000. The odds would shift in favor of LaGrange though in the next three sets as the Panthers won 25-22, 25-16, 25-21. 

ERICA BALKCUM led Piedmont with nine kills against LaGrange as the Panthers had 49 kills to Piedmont's 41. LAINEY CHOINIERE had 18 assists while ALI WILKINS had 19 digs. 

Against Covenant, it was never decided by more than three points until the final set as it took five to declare the Scots 3-2 victors. Piedmont took the first set 25-22, followed by Covenant claiming the second by the same score. Again in the third and fourth sets, it would be a 25-23 final with Piedmont taking the third and Covenant the fourth. 

The fifth set was controlled by the Scots who won 15-6 to take the match 3-2. This marked Covenant's third straight five set match. 

Turning Point
--Piedmont claimed the first set against LaGrange but could not keep pace with the Panthers throughout. 
--Covenant used a 5-0 run in the fifth set to take an advantage and claim the match. 

Standout Performances
--CECE COGLIANO had six blocks against LaGrange while KYLIE BLANTON added three against Covenant. 

News & Notes
--Piedmont honored a pair of seniors prior to the Covenant match in KAITLYN LOESEL and KYLIE BLANTON. 

Up Next
--The Lady Lions head to Decatur, Georgia on Tuesday to take on Agnes Scott.
