Men’s Soccer Falls, 5-2, to Greensboro

DEMOREST, Ga. – The Piedmont College men's soccer team fell, 5-2, to Greensboro College on Saturday afternoon at the Walker Athletic Complex.
 
After the Lions (7-3-3, 5-2-3 USA South) struck first, the Pride (9-2, 6-1 USA South) answered back to tie the score in the first half before scoring four more goals after the break to pull away and earn the conference road victory.
 
For the second consecutive game, Piedmont raced out to a fast start, as GARRETT MOORE's header found the back of the net off a perfectly-placed cross from TINO MAKINA in the game's second minute. 
 
However, after PC's early goal, Greensboro began to control possession and netted the equalizer in just the ninth minute. 
 
The Pride continued their momentum after halftime, as Gerardo Peraza's strike proved to be the decisive goal. 
 
Greensboro added two more quick goals before the Lions answered with NICK POPE's diving header that cut their deficit to 4-2 in the 70th minute.
 
The Pride tacked on an insurance tally in the final minutes to hand Piedmont its first regulation conference loss of the season.
 
Up next, the Lions return to the road to take on Sewanee on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 6:30 p.m.
 
TURNING POINT:
- With the score tied, 1-1, coming out of halftime, Greensboro's Gerardo Peraza took advantage of a failed Piedmont clearance and finishes from about 10 yards out with what turned out to be the game-winning goal.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Greensboro held a 21-14 advantage in shots and a 7-4 edge on corner kicks.
- PC's NICK POPE and GARRETT MOORE each scored their second goals of the season. For Pope, it Is his second consecutive game with a goal.
