Alston's Double-Double Secures 73-61 Win Over Berea

DEMOREST, Ga. - ELIJAH ALSTON posted his seventh double-double of the season to lead the Piedmont men's basketball team to a 73-61 win over Berea Saturday. Alston scored 20 points to lead all scorers while also adding a game-high 14 rebounds.

The Lions led early with a pair of 3-pointers before the first media timeout with a 12-5 lead. That seven-point lead would be the largest until AUSTIN YOUNG hit a deep ball of his own making it 19-11 Lions.

Piedmont held the lead until under two minutes when Dyonta Bizzle Brown hit two 3-pointers including the final shot of the first half to give the Mountaineers a 37-34 lead at the break. The Lions came out with urgency in the second half as they coasted to a 10 point lead 49-39 with 12:02 on the clock.

The Mountaineers got it to six with just under six minutes remaining but that was the closest Berea would come in the final minutes. The Lions outscored the Mountaineers 39-24 in the second half with six 3-pointers as Alston was 3-for-3 in the second half from deep.

Turning Point
--An 11-0 run for Piedmont over a four minute stretch in the second half established a 10 point lead with 12:00 to play in the game and gave Piedmont the lead they needed to secure the victory. 

Standout Performances
--ELIJAH ALSTON had his seventh double-double of the season with 20 points and 14 rebounds to lead Piedmont in both categories. 

Inside the Box Score
--LANDRY ASSINESI notched a career-high in rebounds with 10 as he has now had a career-high in points and rebounds in the last two games. 

News & Notes
--Piedmont is undefeated against Berea with three victories in the series.

--The Lions are on the road for a Tuesday night tip-off at Brevard College on January 30 at 7:30 p.m.
