MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Thanks to a second-half rally by the Piedmont men's basketball team, the Lions won 83-78 over Huntingdon on the road Saturday.
TAYLOR MILLS was responsible for 21 points in the second half, just eight fewer than the Lions tallied in the first half combined.
ELIJAH ALSTON accounted for five straight points in the first half with a 3-pointer and a dunk to give Piedmont the lead 13-12 with 14:23 to go till the half, but both teams then hit a cold spell as neither scored over the next three minutes.
Three straight 3-pointers for the Hawks gave them control, leading by as many as 12 at one point, but an 8-0 run for the Lions to end the half made it 33-29 at the break. In the second half, Piedmont continued that run with five straight to regain the lead 34-33.
It was never more than a four point game until Alston and Mills made a pair of buckets in the paint to lead 63-56 with six minutes to play. The Lions worked their way to an 11-point lead with 2:48 to go and made enough free throws down the stretch to preserve the win.
Turning Point
--It was a two point lead for Piedmont 57-55 with 8:00 to play and the Lions held the Hawks to just one bucket from the floor over the next five minutes to propel themselves to victory.
