Pope Blesses Piedmont with Game-Winner v. Hawks

DEMOREST, Ga. –  Freshman NICK POPE scored in the 76th minute off a corner kick from JOSE LINARES to lead the Piedmont men's soccer team to a 1-0 USA South Athletic Conference win over Huntingdon on Saturday night.

Pope scored his first collegiate goal and made it count. Linares played the ball six yards in front of the goal, allowing Pope to play the ball to himself and sneaking the shot past the goalie for the game-winner.

The Lions played another balanced game as the offense finished with 18 shots while the defense only allowed six shots with two being on goal.

CHASE KANE and VICTOR MUNOZ each led Piedmont with three shots while a handful of Lions took two shots. Pope finished with two shots, both being on goal.

Keeper ELLIOT SAILES recorded two saves in the shutout.


Turning Point
-- Tied 0-0, Pope was able to sneak a shot past the Huntingdon goalie for the game-winner.

News & Notes
-- Piedmont sits in second in the West Division of the USA South.
 
Up Next
-- Piedmont returns home on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. matchup against in-state opponent Emory University. The USA South will present the Piedmont athletic department with the overall President's Cup Trophy during halftime of Tuesday's game.
