Atlanta, GA -  For the first time since 2005, the Piedmont College volleyball team opens the year 3-0 after a straight sets victory over Oglethorpe 3-0 Sunday. The Lady Lions continued their impressive start to 2017 winning 25-20, 25-20, 25-17.

ANNA WRIGHT led the team in kills once again, posting the most kills in each of the three contests so far this season, with 11 on Sunday giving her 32 through three matches. The sophomore has had double digit kills in all three matches to open the year. 

HALEY HIXON led the team with 24 digs while Kaitlyn Loesel was just behind her adding 18. JENNA WENDEL took the majority of the assists with 18 while LAINEY CHOINIERE contributed nine. 

Turning Point
--Piedmont led 16-8 in the third set and used the advantage to hold on for the straight sets sweep. 

Standout Performances
--ANNA WRIGHT again led the team with 11 kills in the match while the trifecta of Wright, CECE COGLIANO, and Loesel combined for 28 of Piedmont's 41 kills. 

News & Notes
--Piedmont had nearly twice the number of kills as Oglethorpe with 41 kills to the Stormy Petrels' 21 in the match. 

Up Next
--The Lady Lions head to Roanoke, Virginia to take part in the Roanoke College Maroon Classic on Friday and Saturday opening the tournament against Salem College Friday at 2 p.m.
