Lady Lions Take Rematch Over Methodist in USA South Semifinals 15-12

LaGrange, GA - The Piedmont College women's lacrosse team was in USA South tournament action Friday in a rematch with the Monarchs of Methodist University with the Lady Lions coming away victorious taking the nail biter 15-12.

The opening seven minutes were back and forth between the two teams until CASSIDY HEFLIN sent three in a row past the goalie putting PC ahead 5-2 with 17 minutes left in the opening half. The Monarchs responded with three of their own knotting the score at five. The closing minutes of the half were similar to the beginning as both teams battled for momentum, but at the halftime buzzer Methodist was up 8-7.

The second half was a highlight reel half for Piedmont's shooters with 12 shots in the second thirty minutes with only two of the shots on goal being saved as PC bombarded the net putting in eight in the second half. It started with three Lady Lions scoring with less than a minute of separation taking the lead 10-8. Again, both teams battled for the middle portion of the half before Piedmont went on another three goal run starting at the 10 minute mark.

The win advances the Lady Lions to their fourth straight USA South Championship game against Meredith College. 

Turning Point
--The closing 10 minutes gave Piedmont the edge over the Monarchs as the Lady Lions put up four goals to Methodist's one. 

Standout Performances
--CASSIDY HEFLIN exploded offensively with four goals and four assists in the semifinals. 
--ROWAN BUMPASS, JENNA SMITH, and CAITLIN O'BRIEN each gathered three goals against the Monarchs.

Inside the Box Score
--PC had four players scoop up multiple ground balls in the contest. 

News & Notes
--BLAKE FORREST notched seven saves in the contest moving her to 116 in 2017, a new single season save record for Piedmont.

--The Lady Lions move on to the USA South Championship game vs Meredith College Saturday at 3 p.m.
