LaGrange, GA - The Piedmont College baseball team picked up a pair of wins on Thursday to avoid elimination and fight to the final four teams remaining in the USA South Tournament. The Lions are set to take on Greensboro Friday at 3:00 p.m.
Game one looked to be all Hawks as Huntingdon jumped out to an early lead scoring three runs in each the first and second innings to lead 6-0. The Hawks would add another run in the third inning scoring seven unanswered and threatening to send the Lions packing.
From that point on, however, the tide turned as PC would score the next nine unanswered to win the contest. In the fourth inning alone, Piedmont tied the game at six with six runs on four hits in the frame.
The Lions went back to work in the fifth inning tacking on two more runs before a final insurance run in the eighth inning made it 9-7. The Hawks came knocking again in the ninth inning after back-to-back singles to start the frame, but closer
BUDDY GREEN got a strikeout to end the game and keep the Lions in action on Thursday.
In game two, it was just the opposite start as it was the Lions who took control early and never surrendered the lead. Piedmont put up a run in each the first and second innings, then poured it on with four runs on three hits and two errors in the fourth inning leading 6-0.
The Lions continued the onslaught putting up seven more runs over the next two innings as the offensive firepower of PC was explosive. Piedmont led 9-0 before the Pride added four runs of their own but the Lions answered with a four spot that same inning to even the blow.
SETH GEORGE earned the win after starting the contest and pitching the first five innings of the game.
Turning Point
--Piedmont scored six runs in the fourth inning then the game-winning run in the fifth to put themselves ahead and seal the victory in game one.
--The Lions had three multi-run innings against Ferrum to take control of the contest and move on in the tournament.
Standout Performances

JABIN SMITH was 4-for-5 in the leadoff spot against the Hawks.

ZACH LANGLEY had a pair of triples in the contest against Ferrum as it was de ja vu on the second as
BRADY BALLSTADT scored on both triples.

RYAN STEWART earned the win for PC against Huntingdon tossing 2.1 innings allowing just one hit while striking out two.
--The Lions had 12 runs on 16 hits in the second contest against Ferrum.
News & Notes
--Piedmont's relief pitchers combined for 6.1 scoreless inning pitched in the first contest allowing just five hits among the four relievers used.
