Piedmont Moves to 2-0 in Conference Play with 12-7 Win Over Greensboro

Greensboro, N.C. - The Lady Lion lacrosse team moved to 2-0 in conference play with a 12-7 victory over Greensboro College Sunday. ROWAN BUMPASS and CAITLIN O'BRIEN each accounted for three goals in the contest as Piedmont used a hot start to take control. 

O'Brien got the scoring started in the contest with a goal off an assist by KAYLA JONES as Jones had five assists against Greensboro. Her five assists tie a season-high for her and are just two off the program record for assists in a single game. 

Jones also added a pair of goals in the contest to give her seven points to lead the Lady Lions while O'Brien had five points. The Lady Lions jumped out to a 5-0 lead with eight minutes to go until halftime, but the Pride would score twice within a minute and a half to pull within three. 

ROWAN BUMPASS added her second goal of the game before the half to make it 6-2 PC at the break. In the second half, the Pride had an answer for each Lady Lion goal until late in the half when PC added two in a row, but the comeback came up short for the Pride as the Lady Lions won 12-7 outscoring the Pride 6-5 in the second half. 

Turning Point
--The Lady Lions used a 5-0 run to start the contest and give themselves the advantage. 

Standout Performances
--ROWAN BUMPASS scored three goals on just three shots taken while CAITLIN O'BRIEN added three goals and two assists. 
--FRANCESCA MALABAD picked up six ground balls in the contest tying a season-high for field players in 2017. 

Inside the Box Score
--Piedmont out-shot the Pride 19-16 with 17 shots on goal to the Pride's 13. 
--The Lady Lions scored three goals in woman-up opportunities and one in a woman-down situation. 

News & Notes
--Piedmont begins conference play 2-0 for the fourth time in the five-year program history.
