Men's Tennis Handles LaGrange 8-1 in USA South Action at Burgen

Need to Know
Score: Piedmont 8, LaGrange 1
Record: Lions 4-6 (2-0), Panthers 7-5 (2-2)
Location: Demorest, Georgia - Burgen Tennis Courts

Demorest, GA - Playing their second USA South match in three days at home, the Piedmont College men's tennis team took care of visiting LaGrange College by an 8-1 scoreline earlier Sunday at Burgen Tennis Courts.

The Lions dropped a decision at #2 doubles, but never looked back after holding a 2-1 lead into the singles portion of the match where PC swept to pick up the decisive win.

The clincher went to freshman JACKSON HILL who continues to impress as of late with his second straight singles win moving him to 2-0 vs. USA South foes.  Hill also took a win at #3 singles in the Lions' win over Huntingdon this past Friday at Burgen.

All six of Piedmont's decisions in singles action went the way of straight sets winners as the Lions pull to 4-6 on the season with a perfect 2-0 showing in USA South play setting up a match-up of Division undefeateds when the Lions visit Covenant College on Tuesday.

The winner of that match earns the right to claim sole leadership of the West Division in the USA South Athletic Conference.

Turning Point
--JACKSON HILL's win at #2 singles over Will Thompson in straight sets sealed the deal for Piedmont who moved to a perfect 2-0 in league action.

Standout Performances
--Freshman JACKSON HILL not only picked up the clincher, but also took his second straight conference decision in singles play with his win at #2.
--Hill joined NATHAN METZGER at #1 doubles to get a win moving their record to 5-5 as a pairing on the season.

Inside the Box Score
--Piedmont did not drop a set in singles action on the day with each of the six winners taking straight set decisions.
--The only flaw came in doubles play with LaGrange pulling off a win at the #2 slot.

News & Notes
--Piedmont's 2-0 start in USA South play is the second straight such start for PC in the league since joining prior to the 2013 season.
--A win in the Lions' match with Covenant on Tuesday would be Piedmont's best start (3-0) in USA South play to date.

Up Next
--A trip up the mountain to play Covenant College on Tuesday, March 21 with the contest slated for a 3:30 pm start.  The match is crucial for both as the two have each started off a perfect 2-0 in league action so far.
