Demorest, GA - On a chilly evening in Northeast Georgia, the Piedmont College baseball team held off visiting Stevens Institute of Technology earlier Tuesday night by a 5-4 scoreline for another win at Loudermilk Field in 2017.
Stevens raced out to a 3-0 lead with a trio of runs in the top of the 1st though the Lions got one back in the bottom of the 2nd to cut the lead to two.
Piedmont would turn the tide in the 6th getting three runs, two of which came on bases loaded walk situations. After the home team went up 4-3 in the 6th, a wild pitch in the 7th allowed the Ducks to even it back up at four each with the two teams headed to the stretch.
However,
TYLER BURDETTE belted an RBI double in the home half of the inning to push Piedmont back in front 5-4 with the Lions bullpen doing the work needed to ice the contest from there.
Back-to-back quiet innings for relievers
MATT VONDERSCHMIDT and
BUDDY GREEN capped a strong performance from the pen with
MICHAEL HENDERSON getting the win in relief.
Turning Point
--After Stevens tied it up in the top of the 7th at 4-4 with a single run in the frame, Piedmont's
TYLER BURDETTE responded following the stretch with an RBI double that plated
ZACH LANGLEY to give the Lions back the lead.

GRIFFIN OLSON was 2-for-3 on the evening while be called on to play both corners of the infield throughout the contest.
Inside the Box Score
--19 were left on the paths on the evening as the two teams combined for 14 hits in the contest.
--Piedmont was patient at the dish drawing seven walks on the evening as a runner reached in every inning but the 1st for the home team.

--Piedmont leads the country in stolen bases with now 52 on the year...The next closest is Schreiner with 47.

ZACH LANGLEY scored twice on the night for Piedmont marking the third game this season when he has accounted for multiple runs in a single contest.
--Tonight's meeting was the first known match-up between the two programs in Piedmont's NCAA Era.
