Lions Lose Rematch with Maryville 84-68 on the Road

Maryville, TN - After winning the last five straight against the Scots of Maryville College, the Piedmont College men's basketball team fell to the Scots on the road Wednesday 84-68. The Lions trailed by just six at the half but a quick 12-2 run over the early minutes of the second half sealed the victory for the home team. 

It was never more than a four point game until NICK RYAN connected from behind the arc with 10:34 to play in the first half putting Piedmont ahead 17-12. The Lions maintained the lead until Emier Bowman hit a 3-pointer of his own for the Scots to give them a one-point advantage 23-22 with 8:07 to go. 

Calvin Songster tied the game at 28 with a 3-pointer as Maryville began a 7-0 run to establish their lead and took a six point advantage into the break leading 41-35. The Scots opened the second half on a 14-4 run capped by Songster adding another 3-pointer making it 55-39, a 16-point lead for the homestanding Scots. 

Piedmont cut back into the lead with a 3-pointer by JUSTIN VALLEJO making it a four point game 60-56 with 10:13 to play but that was the closest the Lions would get again in the contest. The Scots held the lead throughout the second half and led by as many as 18 in the waning minutes. 

Turning Point
--The Lions trailed by six early in the second half but a 12-2 run for Maryville put the Scots ahead 55-39 with just over 16:00 remaining. 

Standout Performances
--CHASE ENGLAND led the team with 19 points in the contest including scoring 10 in the second half. 

Inside the Box Score
--In five of the last six games, Piedmont has had 10 or more 3-pointers including 11 in Wednesday's contest. 

News & Notes
--Piedmont drops to 6-5 in the USA South with three conference contests remaining including matchups with Methodist and Greensboro who both have four losses. 

Up Next
--The Lions return home for Senior Day on Saturday, February 11 taking on Methodist University at 2:00 p.m. inside Cave Arena.
