Lions Lacrosse Start 2017 Strong with 18-8 Win Over Millsaps

Jackson, MS - The Piedmont College men's lacrosse team hit the road for the 2017 opener against Millsaps College beating the Majors 18-8 after a 10-goal second half for PC.

It didn't take long for the Lions to start the offensive dominance with BRADY JENKS getting his first goal as a Lion after only 33 seconds had ticked away. Piedmont stuck four in the net before the Majors could respond closing the quarter with PC on top 5-4. 

At the start of the second quarter another first-minute goal would set Piedmont up to claim the lead for good as JOSH COBBINA scored his first of three on the day. PRESTON QUARLES and JEREMY KOHN would each grab goals before halftime putting the Lions ahead 8-5 after holding the Majors to one goal in the second.

Out of halftime, the Majors would add one more to their column, this goal being the last Millsaps goal until two minutes into the fourth. The Lions scored five unanswered to keep the Majors at bay 14-6.

In the final quarter of the season opener, Kohn and BRITT KENNEDY would each grab goals in the first minutes of the fourth. Back-to-back goals by the Majors wouldn't slow down the Lions as PC put in three more before the final horn. 

Turning Point
--The Lions held the Majors to a only two goals in the second and third quarter. PC's offense was firing winning the third 5-1. 

Standout Performances
--JEREMY KOHN and BRITT KENNEDY each tallied 4 goals in the contest against the Majors. 
--PRESTON QUARLES and CHRIS HADLOW played with eyes up throughout the game connecting with four assists each. 

Inside the Box Score
--Piedmont was out-shot by the Majors 50-36, however, the Lions were much more accurate shooting .667 to Millsaps .500.

News & Notes
--With a team of young players, Piedmont's freshmen produced 14 of the 18 goals against the Majors.

The Lions make their way to Alabama for another road game against the Panthers of Birmingham-Southern College next Friday.
