Lions Fall in First Road Contest of 2017 to Birmingham Southern 23-9

Birmingham, AL - The Piedmont College men's lacrosse team was back on the road facing off against the Panthers of Birmingham-Southern College dropping the contest 23-9. An 11-point second quarter helped push the Panthers past the Lions.

Piedmont started strong as CHRIS HADLOW netted the first goal in the contest after five minutes of play. The Panthers responded quickly hitting back-to-back goals before Hadlow grabbed another for the Lions. The teams were tied at three at the end of the first quarter.

BSC started the second with three unanswered until BRANDON MURRIA notched his first goal of the season off the give-and-go play from PRESTON QUARLES. The goal by Murria was the lone goal for PC in the quarter as the Panthers notched eight more. Piedmont trailed going into the second half 14-4.

The second half was similar for the Lions scoring five goals to BSC's nine in the final two quarters. Piedmont was unable to battle back from the large gap created in the second quarter falling to the Panthers 23-9.

Turning Point
--The Panthers outscored PC 11-1 in the second quarter giving them the momentum in the game after a tied first quarter. 

Standout Performances
--PRESTON QUARLES scored his second collegiate hat trick as well as notching two assists to lead the Lions with 5 points. 

Inside the Box Score
--The Panthers' starters scored only nine of their goals to Piedmont's starters who scored five. 

News & Notes
--The Lions have yet to beat the Panthers in the five meetings against them since the Piedmont program started in 2012.
