Auburn, AL - The Piedmont College cycling team traveled just across the state line this past weekend to compete in the Auburn University Road Race, the second road event of the season for PC.

On a course cobbled with brick and uphill, the wind played an important factor with several break away attempts made. CONLEY WILHELM and TANNER BATSON raced the Men's C/D category first thing in the morning.

No breakaways stuck and Conley sprinted to his first podium, finishing 3rd. Batson was best improved rider with impressive contribution to the early parts of the race.

In the women's A race, ERICA ALLAR carried the momentum from Saturday's win and attacked about half way thought the 45 minute race. Allar cleared the field and finished the criterium solo, securing another victory for Piedmont's road campaign.

DYLAN CANTRELL and ANDREW GUELZO raced an aggressive and dynamic race making multiple breakaways with Cantrell solo at one point during the hour long event.

Represented in nearly every move, the breakaway efforts were reeled back in and the field would eventually see a field sprint.

Despite racing with only two riders against full teams, Andy and Dylan finished 6th and 7th respectively.

Standout Performances
--ERICA ALLAR once again carried the flag for the program clearing the field in Sunday's race finishing the criterium solo for yet another victory.
--The day before the Auburn race, newcomer CONLEY WILHELM, who began riding to supplement his running Piedmont College cross country team, finished 18th in the mens open category.

Coach's Corner
Piedmont Head Cycling Coach Jame Carney on his team's performance over the weekend..."Great to see everyone improving mentally, physically and tactically from the Swamp Classic (two weeks ago). When we are racing nearly the identical group of riders in the SECCC (South East Collegiate Cycling Conference), it makes it easier to gauge performance gains. We're on a great trajectory towards Road Nationals, which is two months away. Learning from each race is our main objective right now, getting better each week. We'll save race wheels and tires for April. I'm very proud of our athlete's focus to our ultimate goal."

News & Notes
--The criterium event offered collegiate men's and women's events in downtown Opelika, Alabama with the course measuring 1 mile in length...The back straight was cobbled with old bricks and the home straight was uphill.
--Piedmont kicked off the road season with the Swamp Classic hosted by the University of Florida back in early February.
--The Auburn event came just a day after PC rode in the Assault on Curahee Mountain, a benefit raising funds for the Georgia National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA).
