Maryville, TN - In the rubber match of the first USA South series of the season, the Piedmont College Lions dropped the contest 7-4 to Maryville, dropping the series to the Scots. The Lions scored in the first two innings but were unable to keep the offense alive while the Scots had three home runs in the contest. 

Piedmont plated a pair of runs to open the top of the first as TYLER BURDETTE doubled and stole third with GRIFFIN OLSON sending him home on a single. ANDREW BURDEN doubled in the next at bat to bring around Olson and make it 2-0 in favor of the visitors. The Scots would pick up a run in the bottom of the frame on an error cutting the lead in half 2-1. 

COLLIN GRANT doubled to start the second inning and would score after a pair of errors on the pitcher making it 3-1 and the scoring continued in the frame with JUSTIN GROOVER reaching first on a throwing error and sending CALEB NORTON across the plate. In total, the Scots had three errors in the top of the second inning as Piedmont scored twice on a single hit. 

The third inning showed promise as Burden began the inning with a triple, but was thrown out at home later in the inning on a fielder's choice. Maryville's McKenzie Jackson homered to start the bottom of the third inning making it 4-2. Piedmont would record just two more hits in the contest as Maryville would add runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings. 

Turning Point
--The Scots had two 2-run home runs in the fifth and seventh innings to take the lead and seal the win. 

Standout Performances
--ANDREW BURDEN was the lone Lion to record a pair of hits going 2-for-4 from the plate with an RBI. 

Inside the Box Score
--BUDDY GREEN closed out the contest pitching the final 1.2 innings giving up just a single walk as Green still has not allowed a run in his four appearances. 
--The Scots had three home runs in the contest accounting for five of the seven runs scored. 

News & Notes
--This marked the USA South opener for Piedmont who dropped the series 1-2. 

Up Next
--The Lions return home Tuesday to take on Adrian College in a pair of games Tuesday and Wednesday with first pitch set for 7 p.m. both nights.
