Demorest, GA - Taking on a team that went 30-12 a season ago and was picked to finish 1st in the MIAA this year, the Piedmont College baseball team saw a freshman come up big in the bottom of the 9th as NOAH HEATHERLY delivered a walk-off hit that scored two to rally Piedmont from down 3-2 to a 4-3 win earlier Tuesday evening. 

With the lights shining brightly on a cool February evening at Loudermilk Field, the freshman catcher was at his best when it looked as though the tide might be against him as Heatherly sat in a 1-2 count with two outs in the bottom of the 9th and bases loaded for the Lions.

However, the youngster drilled a Zach Dunn pitch right back up the middle allowing BRADY BALLSTADT to cross the plate just moments before ANDREW BURDEN slid in safely as well as the Lions rallied once more at home in the 9th.

Piedmont was able to stay within striking distance on the evening despite an impressive pitching performance by Adrian starter Pierce Banks in his collegiate debut as he no-hit the Lions through six complete before allowing back-to-back basehits to lead off the 7th after the stretch in Demorest.

The Lions collected their first run in that 7th with an ANDREW BURDEN sac fly that plated BRADY BALLSTADT before CALEB NORTON scored in the 8th to make it a one-run ballgame and set the stage for a dramatic finish.

Turning Point
--No doubt it was NOAH HEATHERLY's 2-RBI basehit that helped Piedmont overcome a 1-run deficit in the bottom of the 9th with two outs on a 1-2 count and the game on the line.

Standout Performances
--NOAH HEATHERLY is the obvious answer here offensively for the Lions as he came up with the game-winning hit back up the middle that scored two for PC in the 9th.
--It was fun to watch the heat that BUDDY GREEN brought to the mound in the ninth as he tossed a perfect 1-2-3 inning that took all of six minutes putting him in line for a win with the rally to follow.
--Freshman righty Pierce Banks for Adrian has to be mentioned as he went six and a third with his first six innings not seeing a hit on the board for the Lions.

Inside the Box Score
--Piedmont only put one runner on the paths in the first six innings with JABIN SMITH reaching on an error in the 3rd before back-to-back singles to start the 7th helped chase the Adrian starter from the contest.

News & Notes
--Tonight was the third walk-off win for Piedmont at home in the 2017 season as PC also knocked off CNU and Birmingham-Southern earlier in the year with the bottom of the 9th holding the drama. 
--It was also the third time that PC has overcome a deficit with multiple runs scored in the 9th.  

Up Next
--Another 7:00 pm first pitch under the lights vs. Adrian as the Lions host the Bulldogs again on Wednesday, March 1 for the second of two contests with the Michigan-based team.
