Danville, KY - The Piedmont College women's lacrosse braved the road for the first time in the Laura Patton era earlier Friday evening falling to Centre College in Danville by a 16-6 scoreline.
The Colonels, hosting PC for the 2017 season opener, scored eight goals in each half while the Lady Lions tallied three in each.  
Piedmont was led by a pair of two-goal scorers including veteran standout 
KAYLA JONES while Hannah Bellamah led the Colonels with her five goals on the night including two in a key five-goal stretch that gave Centre a 6-goal first half lead.
Piedmont trailed 2-1 with just under 13 minutes gone before Centre tallied five goals over the next ten minutes to take a 7-1 lead.  
The Lady Lions would tally a pair before the break with 
JENNA SMITH scoring both Piedmont goals, but Centre's Bellamah tallied one as well to give the home team an 8-3 lead at half.
The second half saw Centre start on a 4-1 run to take a 12-4 lead before 
JULIANNA SURGENT scored to cut it to 12-5.  Though Piedmont's 
ROWAN BUMPASS would tally a goal with 11:30 to play, the Lady Lions could not overcome the offensive attack of the Colonels who claimed a 10-goal win at home.
Turning Point
--A five-goal run by the home team over a 10-minute time span in the first half that turned a 2-1 game into a six-goal lead for the Colonels.

KAYLA JONES and 
JENNA SMITH each scored two on the night for the Lady Lions to lead the way in that column.
--Freshman 
DOMONIQUE STEELE had two assists on the evening for PC.
Inside the Box Score
--Centre held the edge in the draw control department with 15 to Piedmont's nine.
--A large disparity between the two came in free-position shots with Centre collecting 13 such opportunities compared to Piedmont's four on the night.

--Centre takes the lead in the series between these two programs with Friday night's win as the Colonels have won two of the three all-time match-ups.
--Tonight's contest was Centre's season opener and the Game of the Week for the Colonels' Department of Athletics.

Piedmont returns home but will stay within its four-game run against the Southern Athletic Association to start the 2017 season as the Lady Lions host Birmingham-Southern College on Wednesday, February 22.  The opening draw at Walker Athletic Complex will be 6:00 pm ET.
