Demorest, GA - In the final regular season home game of 2016-17, the Piedmont College men's basketball team rose to the occasion in a comeback victory over Greensboro College 82-76. Piedmont trailed by as many as 10 in the second half before storming back to take the lead with 2:15 to play on a
TRAE GAINES 3-pointer.
It was a close game through the early going as the two were tied at 17 midway through the first half after
ELIJAH ALSTON drained a shot from behind the arc. Greensboro opened up a five point lead but just 16 seconds later,
PEYTON LUKEN cut that to two with a 3-pointer making it 26-24.
The Pride held a two point lead 29-27 at the break and built that to an eight point lead early in the second half. PC kept it close but again trailed by 10 51-41 with 11:43 to play. Two
TAYLOR MILLS triples helped cut back into the lead with Piedmont coming as close as four points with 9:27 to go.
Greensboro took a seven-point lead on a 3-pointer by Joseph Gatling making it 64-57 but the Lions went on a six-point run to pull within one. The Lions never trailed by more than four from that point on as
TRAE GAINES proved to be the hero in the final minutes as the senior made the most of his regular season home finale.
Gaines accounted for the 3-pointer that took the lead 72-71 with 2:15 to play and added four more points and a block in the final minutes. Piedmont moves to 8-5 in league play with the win and currently sits in a tie for second in the league standings with Methodist who the Lions defeated Saturday.

--A three-pointer by
TRAE GAINES with 2:15 left in the game made it 72-71 and gave Piedmont its first lead since it was 14-13 with 13:04 to play in the first half.
Standout Performances
--
TRAE GAINES finished with 20 points in the contest scoring seven points in the final three minutes of the game and provided a monster block with 48 seconds to play in the contest.
Inside the Box Score
--The Lions trailed by 10 with 11:43 to play in the game but rallied to take the victory and move themselves into contention in the final week of the regular season for the top spot in the USA South.

--Piedmont outscored Greensboro 55-47 in the second half.
