Lookout Mountain, GA - In the regular season finale, the Piedmont College men's basketball team couldn't surpass a strong second half by the Covenant Scots falling 91-64 to the home team. The Lions led just once in the game off the tipoff as the Scots maintained control of the contest throughout and used a 19-7 run to open the second half and seal the win.Â
Trae Gaines hit the opening shot of the game from behind the arc to put PC up 3-0 but the Scots answered with back-to-back 3-pointers before
PEYTON LUKEN sank one from deep making it six-all. Those two 3-pointers were the only ones until the 11:30 mark when
TAYLOR MILLS hit one followed by
DAVID OGLESBY, but the Lions still trailed by three with 10:22 to play.
Piedmont kept it close in the final 10:00 of play until the half as they trailed by four 40-36, but the Scots came out with intensity after the break knocking down a pair of 3-pointers to open up a 10-point lead. Those sparked a 19-7 run while Covenant's Patjo Twagirayezu accounted for 11 of those points with three 3-pointers.
The Lions would come as close as seven points soon after but the Scots continued to expand their lead including a four minute stretch where they held PC scoreless and scored 16 straight.Â
KELLY ASSINESI led Piedmont with 12 points in game while
TRAE GAINES added 11 and
PEYTON LUKEN and
JUSTIN VALLEJO both scored 10 points.Â
Turning Point
--The Scots came out in the second half on a 19-7 run including Patjo Twagirayezu accounting for 11 points during that run with three 3-pointers.Â
Standout Performances
--Twagirayezu had a game-high 23 points going 5-of-7 from 3-point range and was 9-of-13 from the floor.Â
Inside the Box Score
--The Lions' only lead came on the first shot of the game as
TRAE GAINES hit a shot from behind the arc to put PC up 3-0 twenty seconds into the game.Â

--Piedmont was outscored 51-28 in the second half after trailing by four at the break.Â
