Sewanee, TN - Playing against another Southern Athletic Association member, the Piedmont College men's tennis team fell 8-1 earlier Saturday afternoon to Centre College in a neutral site match between the two. 

Piedmont dropped three extremely close doubles decisions including a 9-7 result at the top spot and an 8-6 decision at #3 to head into singles play behind 3-0. 

Though NATHAN METZGER would get a decisive straight sets winner at the #1 singles slot, Centre picked up a key win at #4 and a pair of close decisions at #2 and #3 also went the way of the Colonels despite the best efforts of the Green and Gold. 

Turning Point
--Centre holding on in doubles play at #1 to take a 9-7 decision was a highlight of how close some of the decisions were in this neutral site match.

Standout Performances
--NATHAN METZGER was impressive at #1 singles getting a 6-2, 6-4 win over Centre's Trey Akmon.
--Newcomer KANLER CUMBASS took a 6-3 winner in the first before falling in the next two sets of his decision.

Inside the Box Score
--BRYAN BARNETT could not have played a closer match at #2 singles with each of the two sets he dropped going to tiebreak. 

News & Notes
--Piedmont opens the 2017 against three Southern Athletic Association opponents with today's match with Centre College the second of those three on the slate.  

Up Next
Piedmont travels to Atlanta, Georgia for a February 23 showdown with Oglethorpe University with first serve set for 3:30 pm.
