MARYVILLE, Tn. - The Piedmont College men's basketball team dropped the 2017-18 USA South opener to Maryville College 90-77 on the road Saturday. The Scots used a late first half run to claim the lead and never surrendered it.

In the first half, Piedmont took a five point lead at 15-10 after MARQUISE LANIER and TAYLOR MILLS combined for Piedmont's first 15 on the board. In just over a minute's time, Piedmont used three fastbreak layups to take an eight point lead and led by eight with 6:52 until halftime.

From that point though, the Scots took control as they used a 16-3 run over the final minutes of the half to claim the lead and never trailed again in the contest. Maryville led by as many as 14 in the second half as they moved to 1-0 in league play while PC drops to 0-1.

The Lions had 10 3-pointers with Lanier and MALIK ABDULGADER both posting three each. Abdulgader finished with 11 points marking a new career-high.

Turning Point
--A 16-3 run gave Maryville the lead at the half 38-33 after Piedmont held an eight point lead with 6:52 to play before the break.

Standout Performances
--MARQUISE LANIER led the Lions once again in points scored with 17 points including three 3-pointers.

Inside the Box Score
--ELIJAH ALSTON posted his second double-double of the season with 11 points & 14 rebounds.

News & Notes
--The Lions had four scorers in double figures to Maryville's five players in double figures.
