Vallejo's Career-High 28 Points Lead Lions to 71-60 Win Over Berea

BEREA, Ky. - On a career afternoon for JUSTIN VALLEJO, the Piedmont College men's basketball team picked up its first conference victory of the season 71-60 over the Berea Mountaineers. Vallejo scored 28 points including 17 in the second half as the Lions left no double maintaining the lead throughout 40 minutes of play. 

Piedmont once against used 3-pointers in the first half to distance themselves and take control of the contest with six shots from beyond the arc in the first half. Four of those came in the first five baskets the Lions made. 

Piedmont held a 29-23 lead at the break and extended their lead to as many as 14 with 12:25 to play in the contest. A quick run over the next two minutes brought the lead to just six points and the Mountaineers cut it to 60-57 with just under three minutes to play. 

It was the defense that kept the Lions in it at the end as PC allowed just three points over the final three minutes outscoring the Mountaineers 11-3 to close out the contest. 

The Lions had three players in double figures with Vallejo scoring 28, TAYLOR MILLS contributing 14 points including four 3-pointers, and MARQUISE LANIER with 10 points. 

Turning Point
--The Lions used four straight 3-pointers early in the contest to take a 14-7 lead and never trailed in the game. 

Standout Performances
--JUSTIN VALLEJO scored a career-high 28 points to lead Piedmont as he finished with a double-double with 12 rebounds. 

Inside the Box Score
--The Mountaineers never led in the contest with the score tied just once at two all.

News & Notes
--Berea has lost its last four straight including two in OT prior to the contest against Piedmont.

--The Lions are in action at home against Huntingdon College on Wednesday, December 13 at 4:00 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the women.
