Lanier's Career Best 24-Point Performance Lifts Lions Over Hawks

DEMOREST, Ga. - For the second straight game, it was a career-best performance by a Lion that led Piedmont to victory as it was MARQUISE LANIER's 24 point performance that helped PC to an 82-77 victory over Huntingdon. The Lions trailed by as many as 16 in the contest before pulling off a second half rally to move to 2-1 in USA South play. 

Piedmont led just once in the first half as the Hawks jumped on top quickly. It was a four point lead for Huntingdon 13-9 with 14:47 to play in the first half, but then the shooters went cold as it was over two minutes before another basket was made. 

Back-to-back-to-back three pointers for the Hawks built a 13-point lead with 6:45 before the break. Five straight baskets came from deep during that run as TAYLOR MILLS answered with one but the Hawks neutralized the threat making another of their own. 

Huntingdon led 41-32 at the half but the Lions used a seven point run to get within four with 15:25 on the clock. The Hawks continued to build back their lead though over the next four minutes as it got as large as 12 once again 61-49 with 11:25 remaining. 

Back-to-back 3-pointers by Lanier cut the lead in half and sparked Piedmont's offense. The Lions continued to keep it close and used a 10-0 run to take the lead 70-69 and only allowed three points over a two and half minute span while making all six free throws in the final 18 seconds. 

Turning Point
--Piedmont trailed by nine with just under six minutes to go but used a 10-point run over a two minute stretch to claim the lead and never trailed again in the contest. 

Standout Performances
--It was a career night for MARQUISE LANIER who tallied 24 points, seven higher than his previous best, leading all scorers with six 3-pointers. 

Inside the Box Score
--The Lions outscored Huntingdon 50-36 in the second period. 

News & Notes
--Piedmont has now won six of the last seven contests against Huntingdon with the lone loss being a three point loss at Huntingdon in 2015.

--Piedmont is in action once again at home on Saturday, December 16 taking on Methodist at 2:00 p.m.
