Red Hot 3-Point Shooting Leads Lions Past Oglethorpe 82-61

Location: Demorest, Georgia

DEMOREST, Ga. - Thanks to 13 3-pointers from the Lions, the Piedmont College men's basketball team picked up its first win of the season with an 82-61 win over Oglethorpe. Piedmont's 13 3-pointers mark the most threes for a Lions team this season as the 2016-17 team achieved that mark three times.

It was a close game through the first five minutes of play but the Lions reeled off back-to-back-to-back three pointers to build an eight point lead 19-11. Piedmont would lead by as many as 10 in the first half and took a nine point advantage into the break 39-30.

The Lions first three baskets of the second half came from 3-point range as PC built a 15 point lead in the early going. Piedmont continued to impress as they were unrelenting in the second half outscoring Oglethorpe 43-31.

Piedmont made six shots from beyond the arc in the first half, but came out electric in the second half shooting 78% from 3-point range making 7-of-9 from deep. ELIJAH ALSTON was a perfect 4-for-4 from downtown in the second half ending the game with seven 3-pointers.

Turning Point
--Piedmont gained the lead less than five minutes into the contest and did not slow down from there as the scoring clicked for the Lions and they scored 39 in the first and 43 in the second half holding off any Stormy Petrel comeback effort.

Standout Performances
--ELIJAH ALSTON nearly doubled his career high in points netting 23-points for the Lions as he was also one shy of the program record for 3-pointers made as he posted seven against Oglethorpe.
--LANDRY ASSINESI was perfect from the floor going 5-for-5 against the Stormy Petrels as the senior tied a career-high with 10 points.

Inside the Box Score
--The Lions improved 32% from beyond the arc in the second half going 7-of-9 in the last 20-minutes.

News & Notes
--The Stormy Petrels committed zero fouls in the second half of the contest.

Up Next
--Piedmont travels to Maryville College for the USA South opener on Saturday, December 9 at 2:00 p.m.
