Volleyball Ends Regular Season with USA South Split on the Road

MONTGOMERY, Al. -
 
 In the final weekend of the regular season, the Piedmont College volleyball team earned a split on the road at Huntingdon winning against the Hawks in the final match. The Lady Lions lost the opening match to Maryville 3-2 but picked up a 3-1 win over the home team.

The Scots of Maryville took the opening set, but not without it taking extra points with a 26-24 win for MC. The Lady Lions returned the favor just squeaking by with a 25-23 win in the second and the two would trade sets once again to be knotted at two each.

In the fifth set, it was again a close call as the two teams were tied at 12, but Maryville would score three in a row to take the set and the match.

Against Huntingdon, the Lady Lions went up 2-0 before dropping the third set 26-24 to the home-standing Hawks. However, the Lady Lions charged back in the fourth and claimed the match with a 25-22 win.

The split leaves PC as the #3 seed in the West Division with the USA South tournament beginning on Tuesday, October 31. 


Turning Point
--In the match against Maryville, the Scots scored the final three points of the fifth set to win with the last two coming on attack errors by the Lady Lions. 

Standout Performances
--Katelyn Durmire added to her impressive total this season with 14 blocks on the day including nine against Huntingdon. 

News & Notes
--Four of the nine sets played by PC Saturday went to extra points to decide a winner. 

Up Next

--The Lady Lions will face Agnes Scott at 5:00 p.m. at Maryville on Tuesday, October 31.
