Demorest, GA - In the home opener for 2016, the Piedmont College volleyball team looked the part of a squad coming in having won three of four to start the year as the Lady Lions swept Toccoa Falls College in three sets to earn their fourth victory of the season.

It was a story of the second set on the night as the Eagles kept it tight in the first falling by only five, 25-20 putting the pressure on the home team who looked young as the roster detailed. 

However, growing up in front of the packed house in the Cave, freshman LAINEY CHOINIERE helped Piedmont race out to 11 straight points to start the second serving two aces along the way including one to cap the run.  

Piedmont would go on to win the second set 25-6 with the Eagles needing to win three straight rallies at 24-3 to even reach that half dozen mark.

After the home team took control, it was the block that spurred PC on to the sweep as a thunderous effort from KYLIE BLANTON and AMANDA TROTTER in the third came as part of an 11-3 run to open the set, one which Piedmont took 25-10 to cruise to the 3-0 win in Cave Arena. 

The victory puts Piedmont at now 4-1 on the season with a trip upcoming to the Greensboro Invitational this weekend.

Turning Point
--An 11-0 run to start the second set was the moment that turned heads at Cave Arena as the Lady Lions set their sights on a sweep before getting to the third.

Standout Performances
--In her Cave Arena debut, ERICA BALKCUM led the team with 10 kills on 14 attempts for a .643 attack percentage.
--KAITLYN LOESEL was also impressive with nine kills hitting .304 while also leading the team with her five aces on the evening.

Inside the Box Score
--After a shaky start in the first that saw Piedmont win by five, PC started the second set winning the first 11 points to set the tone in the match for the rest of the evening. 

News & Notes
--The win at home is the 7th straight time that the Lady Lions have won their home opener in a season with the last loss coming back in 2009 against Brenau.
--Of the seven home opening wins, three of them have come over Toccoa Falls with all going in straight sets.  

Up Next
The Lady Lions will have Carolina on their minds with a trip to the Greensboro Invitational in Greensboro, North Carolina this coming weekend.  Piedmont will open tourney play on Saturday, September 10 with a 10:00 am first serve against Greensboro College.
