Greensboro, NC - The Piedmont College volleyball team was forced to settle for a split on day one of the Greensboro College Invitational earlier today despite picking up a straight sets win over Greensboro in the morning.  It was Emory & Henry College who handed PC its loss 3-1 in the afternoon follow up for the Lady Lions who have two matches remaining in the tournament.

In their first contest of the day, the Lady Lions raced out early taking the first two sets from the tourney hosting Pride, 25-18 and 25-20, as PC was looking for its fifth straight win after a season opening loss to Transylvania.

However, the home team would make it more difficult in the third set with neither team leading by more than two points until the final score of the set.  PC trailed 22-20 late in the set before rallying with five straight points to close out the set and match despite a regrouping timeout by Greensboro.

Later in the day, Piedmont found itself in another battle facing the Wasps of Emory & Henry College who forced a split in the first two sets with the Lady Lions, both of which came in tie-break fashion.  PC took the opener 26-24 before the Wasps took a 27-25 decision in the second and went up two sets to one after holding off Piedmont in the third 25-23.

Despite good defensive work at the net with more than six blocks in the first three sets, Piedmont was unable to take the fourth to force a decider falling 25-21 to drop the match three sets to one.

Turning Point
--After taking a two-set lead against Greensboro, Piedmont needed a late five-point run in the third to close out the sweep against the Pride for win #5.
--The Wasps of Emory & Henry held off PC in the 4th with a run at the end leading late against the Lady Lions.

Standout Performances
--KAITLYN LOESEL led the team in the first match of the day with her eight kills while JESSICA CHEIJ posted a .545 hitting percentage.
--HALEY HIXON had 16 digs in the Greensboro win to lead the Lady Lions in that category.

Inside the Box Score
--Cheij's .545 hitting percentage in the day's opener improved on her previous best of the year, a .145 showing against Keystone.
--Piedmont held Greensboro to a negative hitting percentage as a team with the Pride posting a -.008 in the 3-0 PC win.
--Veteran AMANDA TROTTER's performance against Emory & Henry featured six kills through the first two sets alone.

News & Notes
--The victory over Greensboro extended a 6-game winning streak for PC against the Pride, a streak which stretches back to the 2013 season.
--Two of the last four matches in the series with Emory & Henry have been decided in five sets with today's contest going to four.
