Clemson, SC - The Piedmont College cycling programs are off and racing having competed in the very first event earlier this weekend at the Tiger Territory Mountain Race.  

Saturday featured the short track race with a steep, technical downhill section followed by a punchy climb.  ANDREW GUELZO was officially the first rider in the history of the program and was 4th into the hole slot (the race to the very first single track section) experiencing a mechanical problem which slowed him a few minutes.  

Despite the setback, Guelzo managed to pass most of the group again and finish in 3rd.  ERICA ALLAR finished the women's race in 4th while JESSICA PRINNER experienced a crash and did not finish the race.  

Sunday's event was the Cross Country race, an endurance event comprised of a 6-mile loop through alternating single track and dirt road sections.  Both Guelzo and Allar obtained 2nd place after three laps of this course in the women's As and men's Bs respectively while Prinner was 10th.  

Standout Performances
--ANDREW GUELZO was the first official rider in the history of the program finishing 3rd in the event on Saturday.  

Inside the Numbers
--Piedmont saw three riders compete in the Tiger Territory event hosted by the Clemson cycling club.

--The event is the first in the history of the Piedmont cycling programs and Head Coach Jame Carney.
