Montgomery, AL - A flurry of early scoring and eight total goals highlighted the Piedmont College men's soccer team's road win over Huntingdon College on Friday in Montgomery.
The win was a key one for the Lions as PC picked up three road points in conference play and currently sit in a four-way tie atop the league standings in the young 2016 season.
Huntingdon scored first with Brandon Van Emelen tallying the goal just 1:03 into the contest, the first of his two goals on the night. However, Piedmont responded with a resounding attack as
LUKE MARTIN scored just over five minutes later, the first of two for the Piedmont freshman as he also would score in the 29th minute.
Martin's second score made it a 3-1 game as
DIEGO GODINEZ tallied the Lions' second goal in the 12th minute. Though holding a two-goal lead, Van Emelen's second goal of the night made it a 3-2 ballgame in the 31st minute, the fifth goal of the first half to that point.
Despite the threat, veteran
CHASE KANE stepped up with a Piedmont score just over two minutes after Huntingdon had made it a 3-2 game giving PC a 4-2 lead at the half allowing the fans in Alabama to catch their breath.
A pair of late scores from PC would distance the two even further with
CHRIS KELLER and
DIEGO GODINEZ each finding the net in the final seven minutes to put the final at 6-2 handing Head Coach Jimmy Stephens and his young Lions an important road win in league play.
