Demorest, GA- In the Lions' second conference contest in 24 hours, Piedmont dropped a tough 2-0 battle to Averett as the Cougars moved to 2-0 in conference play. Piedmont saw four opportunities on goal, but Averett's keeper Austin Bramhall had four saves to match each shot on goal.
The Cougars jumped out in front early on a quick score in the 10th minute of action as Ville Hautakangas gave Averett the lead 1-0. That score remained until the 81st minute when Averett got an open look after a Bramhall save just seconds before and finished to seal the final score of 2-0.
The past two contests have been tough, physical battles for the Lions who continue to fight and have been battle-tested in the early going. The Lions take on Huntingdon College on September 23 continuing USA South play.
Turning Point
--Ville Hautakangas scored the game winner in the 10th minute as that goal marked the only score until the 81st minute.
Standout Performances
--LUKE MARTIN had three shots with one on goal as he led Piedmont with the most opportunities.
--MITCH BARRY allowed a pair of goals but also added a save.
