Demorest, GA-  In the 2016 USA South opener for the Piedmont men's soccer team, the Lions rose victorious shutting out William Peace 2-0. The Pacers have been scoring in bunches this season with 22 goals scored through five games but the Lions kept them from finding the back of the net.

Piedmont's LUKE MARTIN netted the game-winner in the 34th minute as he scored his first goal of his career to give Piedmont the 1-0 lead heading into halftime. Through a physical game, Piedmont managed to net another goal in the 72nd minute as TOMMY HILL grabbed #2 for the year.

The Lions' defense continues to impress as the Pacers had just seven shots in the game while only one was on target. MITCH BARRY picked up his second shut out of his career with a save on the evening. The win moves Piedmont to 1-0 in the USA South with the league opening conference play Friday with six teams in action.

Piedmont has less than 24 hours before the next conference opponent arrives as Averett travels to Demorest Saturday for a 2 p.m. start. Averett secured a 3-2 win over Covenant earlier Friday to move to 2-5 overall with the win ending a four match losing streak.
