Lookout Mountain, GAÂ - In the first of three up on the mountain, it was the home team who got the better of the Piedmont College baseball team earlier Thursday with Covenant College snaring a 5-2 win over the visiting Lions.
Piedmont came out swinging with
WILL SKIDMORE leading things off on a triple to the gap in right as the Lions would go on to score two runs in the top of the first. Â Skidmore came across first on the RBI basehit by
BRADY BALLSTADT before the young Piedmont centerfielder would plate the second run later in the inning.
Holding a 2-0 lead, Piedmont saw a triple with two outs in the 3rd by the Scots' Trenton Nobles clear the bases scoring two to tie the contest up at 2-2. Â In the bottom of the 5th, Covenant would take the lead for good with Caleb Bloye delivering a 1-out single that scored two to give the home team a 4-2 lead.
An insurance run added in the 6th and a save out of the bullpen by Alec Mitchell would be enough for the Scots to hold on 5-2 taking the first of three in the key USA South regular season finale for Piedmont.
Turning Point
--A Caleb Bloye single to right center that scored a pair in the bottom of the 5th to break a 2-2 tie.
Standout Performances
--Five Lions combined for Piedmont's five hits on the day including youngster
BRADY BALLSTADT who picked up an RBI single to left in the first.
--
ALLEN TOKARZ tossed three and a third in relief giving up just one hit and no earned runs on the afternoon.
--Matt Reitz went seven innings for the hosting Scots with just three hits given up though the Lions' two runs on the day came off the Covenant starter.
Inside the Box Score
--The Scots held the Lions in check after a two-run first with
BRECK DAVIDSON the only man to reach for PC after the opening frame doing so twice until
ZACH LANGLEY singled in the 8th.
News & Notes
--Covenant has won five straight over PC in Lookout Mountain, a streak that stretches back to 2013. Â
--Piedmont took two of three in both of the first two series between these two programs with the first series win coming at Covenant back in 2011.

Piedmont will be back in action against the Scots on Friday afternoon with first pitch set for 4 p.m.
