Men's Lacrosse Falls 14-2 to Ferrum in First SEILC Contest of 2016

Demorest, GA - In the first Southeast Independent Lacrosse Championship (SEILC) game of the season for the Piedmont College men's lacrosse team, the Lions fell to the defending SEILC champ Ferrum College 14-2.

The Panthers scored four goals in each of the first three periods to overturn the hosting Lions in SEILC action.  Piedmont was out-shot in the contest 57-14 as the Lions struggled to get going on the attack with 14-of-24 mark on the clear. 

Ferrum was up 7-0 before BRANSON MIKELL scored the first of Piedmont's two goals on the day with 5:15 left in the 2nd.  The Panthers added five more to the lead before TAYLOR CARTER scored in the 3rd, his 9th of the season. 

The Lions fall to 1-8 overall with the loss and will be looking for its first SEILC win when traveling to Greensboro College on April 2.  

Turning Point
--Ferrum's opening period performance which saw a 4-0 lead built setting the tone for the win on the road over PC. 

Standout Performances
--Tyler Fullem and Frank Boxley led all scorers with four goals each for Ferrum in the contest.
--BRANSON MIKELL scored his 14th goal of the 2016 season with a finish in the 2nd quarter.

Inside the Box Score
--Piedmont's DALE MORLEY came up with 19 saves in the contest, one save shy of what would have been his third game in the last four with 20-plus saves.
--Ten of Piedmont's 21 turnovers came in the second quarter.


News & Notes
--Neither team converted on a combined seven man-up opportunities in the contest.

Up Next
Piedmont has nothing but SEILC foes left on the schedule as road trips to Greensboro and Methodist on April 2 and 17 respectively still await.  The final home contest of the season will be on April 9 with the opening face-off at 7:00 pm.
