Need to KnowScore: Piedmont 10, Methodist 9Records: Lady Lions 6-3 (1-0 USA South), Monarchs 3-4 (0-1 USA South)Location: Fayetteville, North Carolina - Monarch StadiumFayetteville, NC - In the first of two games on a swing through the Tar Heel state, the Piedmont College women's lacrosse team needed to rally late to overtake the Monarchs of Methodist University 10-9 on Saturday afternoon.
Methodist held the lead 9-8 with under six minutes to play, but Piedmont's
CAITLIN O'BRIEN was able to even up the score at nine each when she found the net at the 3:29 mark keeping alive PC's chances in Fayetteville.
O'Brien's score set the stage for
KAYLA FREUND to come up big with the eventual gamewinner scoring with 1:25 left in the contest to put Piedmont up 10-9, the same as the final score in Fayetteville.
The two teams were tied at five at the half as Piedmont erased a 2-0 deficit created in the first 1:25 of play with a three-goal run over six minutes. There were four ties in the contest before Freund's gamewinner late settled the score.
The victory keeps alive a 16-game regular season winning streak in USA South play for the Lady Lions as well. The last USA South loss in the regular season for PC came on March 30, 2013, the team's inaugural season of play.
Turning Point--Trailing 9-8 after a Methodist score with 5:43 left, Piedmont needed a game-tying goal from
CAITLIN O'BRIEN with 3:29 remaining before
KAYLA FREUND put PC ahead for good with her score at the 1:25 mark.
