Lady Lion Lacrosse Falls to Rhodes in Season Opener 13-10

Need to Know
Score: Piedmont 10, Rhodes 13
Records: Lady Lions 0-1, Lynx 1-0
Location: Memphis, Tennessee - Mason Field

Memphis, TN - In a match-up of some of the South's finest from a year ago, the Piedmont College women's lacrosse team fell to 2015 SAA Champ Rhodes College by a score of 13-10 on Friday afternoon.

The Lady Lions trailed 10-5 at the half cutting into the Lynx' lead in second period but could not rally from the five-goal deficit at the break on the road in the team's season opener.  Piedmont was led by two players who accrued hat-tricks in the loss as MAGGIE MCDANIEL and MCKYNSEY DOUGLAS each tallied three scores.

Hendix led by just one goal with 15:42 to play in the first as MAGGIE MCDANIEL scored to make it a 4-3 game, but the Warriors went on to score six of the next eight goals in the game to assume control and distance themselves from the visitors.

Rhodes is one of two teams from the Southern Athletic Association on the early portion of the schedule for Piedmont that made last year's NCAA field as the Lady Lions host Sewanee in their home opener just over two weeks from now.

PC will continue west to face SAA foe Hendrix College on Saturday in Conway, Arkansas for a 4:00 pm start.

Turning Point
--A three-goal run by Rhodes in the first half after a MAGGIE MCDANIEL goal had made it a one-score game midway through the opening period.

Standout Performances
--Both MAGGIE MCDANIEL and MCKYNSEY DOUGLAS scored three goals a piece in the opener for Piedmont.
--Rhodes' freshman standout from a year ago did not disappoint in her first game as a sophomore as Kendall Cunningham totaled six goals on just ten shots in the contest.

Inside the Box Score
--Rhodes outshot PC 31-20, a tough task for any opponent in 2015 as the Lady Lions were only outshot four times last season in total.
--Both teams took 13 draw controls in the contest.

News & Notes
--These two teams combined to go 29-4 last season setting a clash of the titans in today's season opener.
--The contest was also the first women's lacrosse game in Division III this season for any team in the country.

Up Next
The Lady Lions continue on to Conway, Arkansas for tomorrow's showdown with another SAA member, Hendrix College.  Opening draw in the contest is set for 4:00 pm ET, 3:00 pm CT with the game being played at Warrior Field on the Hendrix campus.
