Lady Lions Score Twice in Final 38 Seconds, Upend Sewanee 13-12 in Overtime

Need to Know
Score: Piedmont 13, Sewanee 12
Records: Lady Lions 3-1, Tigers 1-1
Location: Demorest, Georgia - Walker Athletic Complex

Demorest, GA - Now in its fourth year of existence, the Piedmont College women's lacrosse team continues to build a reputation for some of the most memorable finishes at home in front of the fans at Walker Athletic Complex, and Sunday's 13-12 win over Sewanee will likely go down as one of those top moments for a long time to come.

Piedmont went back and forth with the South region juggernaut Tigers that had not lost a regular season game in nearly two years holding a 4-3 lead after a three-goal run near the mid-way point of the first half.  Sewanee answered with its own three goal run near the end of the period to go up 7-5, but ALEXIS NARDUCCI scored the final goal of the opening period to trim the deficit to one before halftime.

In the second half, neither team scored more than two in a row as the two traded shots with three ties in the half including a 10-10 deadlock late forced by a CAHNER MANNS score with 5:06 to play setting the stage for a dramatic ending.  No one in the complex would know yet just how dramatic that ending would be.

The outlook was bleak for PC with just over a minute to go as Sewanee held a two-goal lead and looked to be adding a third sealing the road win.  However, the goal was disallowed after the stick check and handed Piedmont just the opportunity needed as Caitlyn O'Brien scored twice in the final 38 seconds to level the board at 12 each with her final score coming as just 13 seconds remained in regulation.

After Piedmont tied it up to force overtime, the Lady Lions would dominate the action in overtime though goalie BLAKE FORREST had to come up with a key stop on a free position attempt to keep the home team alive.  After Forrest helped Piedmont clear with just over a minute left in OT, the final possession of the period looked to be in the hands of the Lady Lions and it was MAGGIE MCDANIEL coming up with the big shot in overtime to win it.

McDaniel took a pass and dodged through heavy Sewanee traffic before shooting low to beat Sewanee goalie Crawford Horan for the 13-12 victory sending the Lady Lions cascading onto the turf in celebration after the dramatic finish.

Turning Point
--Down two goals with less than a minute to play, Piedmont scored twice in the final 38 seconds of regulation to force overtime with CAITLIN O'BRIEN having a career day scoring both of those including the game-tying goal with 13 seconds left.

--The Lady Lions outshot the visitors 38-26 on the afternoon as well with 29 of those 38 shots finding the cage.
--PC was also ahead in the draw with 16 to Sewanee's nine as the Lady Lions were led by CAHNER MANNS' seven, two shy of her season-high.
