Need to KnowScore: Piedmont 3, Randolph 18Records: Lions 1-3, Wildcats 1-0Location: Demorest, Georgia - Walker Athletic ComplexDemorest, GA - Randolph College raced out to a big lead early in a Saturday men's lacrosse contest for Piedmont College with the Wildcats earning an 18-3 win over PC.
The Wildcats opened up a 12-0 lead before halftime as Randolph earned the 12th goal with just over a minute to play in the second quarter with Andrew Gleitz scoring his third goal of the day at the 1:06 mark. Gleitz would go on to lead all scores with five goals on the afternoon for the visitors.
Piedmont would score first coming out of the break as
RILEY COCKS posted an unassisted effort to make it 12-1 early in the third. Randolph posted a pair to answer before Piedmont added its second with
BRANSON MIKELL scored the first of two goals in the loss.
Mikell has now scored multiple times in each of Piedmont's four contests this season. The veteran's second goal came as the final score in the 18-3 decision that went against PC as Randolph opened its 2016 season with a win on the road.
Turning Point--Randolph's 12-0 run to open the game cut the Lions out from any attempt at a rally in Demorest.
Standout Performances--
BRANSON MIKELL led the Lions with his pair of scores in the contest, his fourth multi-goal game to start the 2016 season.
--Andrew Gleitz scored five goals on six shots for the visiting Wildcats.
Inside the Box Score--Piedmont was 13-of-20 on clears while the Wildcats were 20-of-22.
--The Lions had eight extra-man opportunities but could not capitalize on the advantage on Saturday afternoon.News & Notes--The Lions have only out-shot an opponent once this season, that coming in the team's win against Oglethorpe in its last outing.Up NextPiedmont hits the road for an in-state affair against Berry College on Wednesday, February 24 in Rome, Georgia. The opening face-off is set for 4:00 pm.
